All about the Fediverse

Here’s a short explanation, courtesy of Wikipedia:
The Fediverse (commonly shortened to fedi) is a collection of social networking services that can communicate with each other (formally known as federation) using a common protocol. Users of different websites can send and receive status updates, multimedia files and other data across the network. The term Fediverse is a portmanteau of federation and universe.^[The majority of Fediverse platforms are based on free and open-source software, and create connections between servers using the ActivityPub protocol.

Mastodon is the most popular software and is analogous to the old Twitter (RIP). Its flagship instance is mastodon.social, which is free to join (like any other Fediverse software) but monthly donations are very much encouraged.

If you create an account on resisttwincities.org and start creating blog posts, you will automatically become part of the Fediverse, and your posts can be followed by anyone else who has a Fediverse account.
